The writer David Reed described the paintings in "Tissue," the exhibition catalog, "The wood, ash, and polyurethane (foam) in Ritchey's work are tissues that happen to offer fairly insistent analogies to solid-seeming but corruptible...flesh. The weblike traces of spreading acrylic in the "canvases" are figurative tissues inside literal ones."
